Q: What is the President's Cancer Panel?

A: The President's Cancer Panel is an advisory group of cancer experts that reports to the President of the United States about the progress, effectiveness and operation of the National Cancer Institute (NCI). The Panel is a 3-member group that provides advice to the President on various aspects of the National Cancer Program. The Panel includes three members appointed by the President, who by virtue of their training, experience, and background are exceptionally qualified to appraise the National Cancer Program. Members are appointed for three-year terms. Lance is currently a member of the President's Cancer Panel.

Q: What does the LAF do on Capitol Hill?

A: The LAF is currently engaged in advocacy initiatives aimed at raising awareness about cancer survivorship among policymakers in Washington, D.C. The LAF works with government agencies, including the National Cancer Institute (NCI) and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to ensure that people living with cancer have the highest visibility among public healthcare professionals and leaders. Our goal is to serve as the voice of cancer survivors in Washington D.C. and we will continue to work with members of Congress to advance cancer survivorship. Q: What is the National Action Plan for Cancer Survivorship?

A: The LAF recently joined forces with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to lead a public health effort to address the issues faced by the growing number of cancer survivors. Our joint plan, A National Action Plan for Cancer Survivorship: Advancing Public Health Strategies, charts a course for the public health community to more effectively and comprehensively address cancer survivorship with the goal of improving the quality of life for survivors. Please click here to learn more about the plan.

Q: Is the LAF affiliated with any political parties or candidates?

A: The LAF is not a political organization and is neither affiliated with any political party or a donor to any political campaign. Under the Internal Revenue Code, all section 501(c)(3) organizations are absolutely prohibited from directly or indirectly participating in, or intervening in, any political campaign on behalf of (or in opposition to) any candidate for elective public office. The LAF is a 501(c)(3) organization.

We are deeply gratified to have the support of many members of Congress and government leaders across the U.S. We believe that cancer is a nonpartisan issue and one that requires broad support.
